Public Meetings

Every public body in Bedford County government, in one place — with every document linked directly to the county's official copy.

Board of Commissioners

The county's elected legislature — your 18 commissioners. Sets the tax rate, adopts the budget, passes resolutions. Meets the 2nd Tuesday, 7 PM, courthouse courtroom. Also called "the County Commission."

Planning Commission

An appointed land-use body — subdivisions, zoning matters, the Comprehensive Plan. Meets the 4th Tuesday, 7 PM, courthouse Suite 200. Its recommendations go to the elected commissioners for final say. Tracked on our Planning page.

  • Sign your name and address on the sign-up sheet before the meeting is called to order.
  • When called on, address the chairperson; remarks are limited to three minutes and must relate to agenda items.
  • Need a disability accommodation? Notify the county at (931) 684-7944 at least one business day before the meeting.

The Regional Planning Commission meets the fourth Tuesday of each month (when there is a business agenda), 7:00 PM, Suite 200, historic Bedford County Courthouse (2nd floor). The Board of Zoning Appeals meets the third Thursday of the month, 5:30 PM, 2nd floor of the historic Bedford County Courthouse. Meetings may be postponed or cancelled for weather, lack of quorum, or lack of business — cancellations are common and are shown below.

A documented gap: the county posts agendas and, since 2026, meeting video for these bodies — but no minutes are published online. Until that changes, the agenda and the video are the public record, and Open Bedford links both.

Commission Standing Committees

Where commission business gets shaped before the full vote — including the data-center moratorium, headed to Rules & Legislative in August.

Other County Boards

Smaller bodies with real authority over permits, licenses, and elections.

School Board

The Bedford County Board of Education governs the school system — the biggest budget in the county. It publishes separately from county government; Open Bedford coverage is planned.

This snapshot covers 2025–2026. The county's archive extends back to 2019 and will be backfilled by Open Bedford's automated pipeline. Listing source: official county meeting page (retrieved 2026-07-31).
